In cooperation with partners from Latvia, Estonia and Sweden, in October 2015 a new project “Hanseatic Approach to New Sustainable Alliances (HANSA)" CB110 was started. The project is implemented with the support from the European Regional Development Fund Central Baltic Programme 2014-2020. As the project name says, its main goal was to enhance the values of the Hanseatic League, which, to a greater or lesser extent, nowadays can be occurred in each partner city and, in cooperation with project partners, create new tourism products and offers, in order to jointly develop HANSA as the leading tourism brand in the Baltic Sea region.
One of the goals of the project was the creation of a new brand “Hansa Culinary”, based on the gastronomic heritage of the Hanseatic League. Since the 13th century, the main task of this union was international trading. It encouraged people to travel and as a result many exotic goods, products and spices arrived in the territory of Latvia. Traders also shared the traditions and culture of other nations. Even today delicious meals, historic traditions, recipes, spices and products are still used. In order to achieve this goal, a number of events have been implemented during the project - on July 22, 2017 the theme of the Hanseatic Gastronomy was shown in the mystery "The Park on the Tray”, Cēsis Restaurant Week was organized for the very first time and other activities were implemented, including the restaurants evaluation in project partner cities - Cēsis, Koknese, Limbazi, Pargauya, Kuldiga, Valmiera, Parnu, Viljandi and Gotland. An independent team of experts went to the restaurants as a "secret guests" and evaluated them scrupulously to assess the quality of service and food.
Cēsis Tourism Information Center is honored to announce that “Villa Santa” and “H.E. Vanadziņš Ziemeļu restorāns” have received 84 from 100 points, which, as acknowledged by the project coordinator Inger Harlevi, is one of the highest evaluations among all the results. Both of these restaurants have got the HANSA CULINRAY diploma, which serves as a sign of quality and recognition for gastronomic adventures in Hanseatic cities.
