This year’s edition is running from 6 July through 18 August 2019. Continuing to mark the centenary of Latvian statehood, it is centred around the subject of national culture in the global age. The core of the extensive visual arts programme is formed by a multimedia exhibition Close-Up/Tuvplāns at the upcoming Cēsis Centre for Contemporary Art. A number of concerts will be dedicated to musicians of the Latvian diaspora. Films for the Mountains programme have been selected by Jānis Putniņš; meanwhile, the Cēsis Concert Hall will host performances of the best productions of the latest theatre season. The grand open-air musical event ‒ as usual ‒ will be staged at the Cēsis Castle Park auditorium: this year, it is a production of Westside Story, the most famous among Leonard Bernstein’s musicals.
For the fifth year in a row, conversation festival “Lampa” is going to be held in Cēsis. During the festival some traffic restrictions is going to be applied in the centre of the city From Thursday, June 27th 6:00 am till June 30th 6:00 am.
From 19th – 21st July city of Cēsis will celebrate its tradition city festival “Cēsis 813”. This year the programme is very diverse, and the moto of the event is “Celebrate summer!”. Cēsis invites everybody to enjoy a wonderful time in the city, explore traditions of Latvia, travel in time, participate in sports events and much more.
New, unique exhibition for Latvia has opened its doors in Cēsis Castle. The “Multimedia story of Cēsis castle” invites the visitors to experience amazing multimedia story about Cēsis Castle, by reliving the most important historical events and feel the ancient atmosphere.
From the 15th to the 22nd of June, on the occasion of the centenary of the “Cēsis battles”, at the Cesis Railway Station, there will be a unique opportunity to explore the historic armored train Wabadus. (Freedom). Visitors to Cesis will have a chance to learn more about the history of armoured trains, as well as about the lives of soldiers and their equipment.
The celebrations of Latvia’s Victory Day, the centenary of the Battle of Cēsis, will be held on Saturday, 22 June. One hundred years ago, the Latvian War of Independence was fought for Latvia’s right to exist.

The WasteArt project invites to international art exhibition “NOT out of sight, NOT out of mind” dedicated to the waste problems.
This year “Cēsis 813” – the most impressive city’s celebration, will be held from 19th – 21st July. During all three days locals and city’s guests are welcome to enjoy art, fashion, music and sport activities. In the previous years, this festival has gathered more than 60 000 visitors by becoming the biggest free of charge three-day festival in Latvia.
On 10th of May at manor “Ungurmuiža” everybody is welcomed to find out more about French table culture, traditions and how the guests are hosted there. The lecture will be held by France’s ambassador in Latvia Gilles Bonnevialle.
